Kitchen Creation: Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Earlier this week I told you about our trip to Hollin Farms to pick strawberries. Never one to pass up an opportunity to try something new, I decided to try my hand at one of my favorite treats to eat: chocolate covered strawberries! I picked up a few supplies at Whole Foods including this amazing white chocolate:

Guittard Vanilla Milk Chips

Most of the recipes I saw mentioned a slow melt in the microwave, so I decided to try that method. I put 3/4 of the bag into the microwave and mixed it after each 20 second interval. The chips slowly began to melt into a bowl of delicious chocolate white chocolate perfect for dipping:

Once the chocolates were all melted, I mixed in the final 1/4 of the bag to bring the temperature of the chocolate down slightly. This ensured the strawberries had a nice shiny finish. Since this weekend was Memorial Day, and we were attending a BBQ at a friends house, I decided to decorate some for the occasion by dipping them in decorating sugar:

I repeated the process with milk chocolate as well, and even took a turn trying to alternate chocolate drizzles on the berries. The end result were delicious and a fun addition to a group BBQ. Simply place the strawberries in the fridge for at least 10 minutes to set and then take them to your party in your container of choice!

Even if you don’t have a strawberry farm nearby, you can certainly try this kitchen creation at home.
